Day 166--A Visit to Yorktown--the town and the battlefield

Today it is much cooler and drizzling rain so we decided a road trip and a way to stay in the car more than outside might be the best idea.  So we headed to Yorktown.  It is only about 20 miles or less from Williamsburg so weren't on the road too long.  First, we came to the little hamlet of Yorktown at the harbor and saw some cute little shops, historic homes, etc. and a walkway up and down the coastline.  As it wasn't raining when we got there, we got out and walked around a bit.
Pretty sure Weston could sink this little boat but it actually was used to carry supplies to the area.

After exploring the coastal area, we went to the visitor's center and National Park headquarters for Yorktown Battlefield.  Weston already knew the importance of this battle was that the British surrendered to the colonists, clearing the way for our country to be born.  Within the visitor's center was a replica of a ship of the day which was very interesting to see with its tight quarters.  After viewing the exhibits, we bought an audio CD which we listened to as we toured the battlefield by car, stopping at various points to learn what happened in that area during the battle.
