The saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" is so very wrong and yet sometimes we get that same kind of mindset as we get older. Thanks to my dear friend Avis who recommend this book, I read and completed "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. I was so impressed with it and convicted by some of my misdirection in how I have or have not expressed love to some of those I love most through these simply steps outlined in the book. The premise by this long-time relationship counselor is that people basically fall into one of 5 camps in the way in which they feel loved by significant others:
- Words of Affirmation
- Quality Time
- Receiving Gifts
- Acts of Service
- Physical Touch
It was eye-opening to read this and immediately identify with what makes me feel loved and figure out pretty quickly what makes some of my dearest loved ones loved. This is a book I should have read long ago and re-read every year or so. I didn't, but now I hope that I will be much more aware of how my people whom I most love, want me to show my love to them. I highly recommend it!
