Day 202 -- Church of Scientology

Today, I finished reading a non-fiction book written by the niece of the man who is the head of the Church of Scientology.  I have always been curious what this "church" is about as I have been in cities where I have seen "Scientology reading rooms" and was curious what those were for.  Well, this book was a complete expose about what a real fraud the whole thing is.  Started by L. Ron Hubbard, it is really just a cult made of a number of layers who are charging fraudulent amounts of money to people who believe they can better their lives by taking these courses that they sell.  They separate families, inslave people to work for them, all the while assuring them that all this is necessary to get across the "bridge" which I suppose is some kind of arrival at a heaven of sorts.  They believe in continual rebirths and reincarnation and when you want to become a member, you have to sign a contract for "1 billion years" of service to the church.  It is just amazing to me that people actually believe this stuff but it is something that many people in Hollywood, number one being Tom Cruise, follow believing it is what brings them their wealth and fame.
