Day 139 -- Family Reunion
Today I had a court hearing for two of my CASA children--they are half-brothers at the same foster home, one age 3 and one aged 1. The one-year-old was the lucky one today because he is getting to go back and live with his Daddy. It is a monitored return meaning CPS and CASA will still be in their lives every week, but he will be with a parent rather than a foster home. Unfortunately, his big brother is not so lucky--we can't even find his dad and the mother of the two boys is not stable enough to have him. So he is stuck in the system. The court won't give him to his maternal grandparents in Maryland so he will probably be one of the kids that gets stuck in the system long-term because he has learning disabilities and autism. So in the same hearing, I felt joy and sadness. But such is the way of these cases so often.
