I discovered that my new supplemental medicare insurance coverage now includes a free membership to many different gyms both locally and nationwide. So I decided to just check it out here in Belton at the Planet Fitness Gym which is fairly new to the area. I went in with my little Silver Sneakers card, and they were so friendly and pleased for me to come in, and I got a free membership and T-Shirt to use all their equipment and free classes as well. They also have an in-house trainer who helps you set up a fitness program based on your level, goals, etc. It is a really big gym, and I was really impressed by the amount of machinery they have in the place. My whole reason for deciding to join was that I would like to train for a 5K walk/run in August, and I knew I would never get outside in the heat and do such a thing. This will allow me to use their treadmills and elliptical equipment and so much more! They are open 24/7 so no excuse for not getting to the gym before it closes I guess! And best of all, it is about 1.5 miles from my house. I have not yet worked out there, but am looking forward to it. Not everything about getting older is bad!
My workout today was actually continuing to help BG get completely moved to the lake. My Garmin fitness tracker tells me that I have walked 6.62 miles today--most of which included carrying large boxes or other large household items to be loaded, and then again to be unloaded! We got all the furniture he is going to keep moved to the lake today so there is nothing left for him at the apartment except the items we plan to donate to a fundraiser garage sale for CASA. His pickup is still also there and he is not letting us forget it! We are hoping this move to the lake is going to work out. The ability to have access to his pickup is still a bone of contention which he will not let go of. So we may be in for more silver alert issues but I guess we will let him have it for now and hope that we can make him understand he does not need to go anywhere but the Dollar General down the street! I took him on 3 runs to the Walmart in Belton and back to the lake today and will continue to do so until he gets it. His buddy Andy told us that BG can no longer fill up his pickup with gas because of the zip code requirement at the pump which he doesn't understand. At least he is now only about 4.5 miles from our house instead of 18 or so.
We also learned today that our pastor Gary does have a metastasized lesion in his liver and will have to have treatment for it--bad news that the cancer is back but good news that there is only one lesion. Treatment plan yet to be decided.
