Day 33 -- Wonder Woman

Tonight we drove to Austin to the Bob Bullock Museum to see a sneak preview screening of Wonder Woman prior to its actually opening at midnight.  The Austin Board of Realtors rented the Imax theater in the museum and had a little pre-reception with food and drinks while raising money for TREPAC.  The movie was 3D on an Imax screen so we were deep "in" to this movie from start to finish.  Of course, this would never have been a movie I would have gone to see for the entertainment value, but it wasn't bad.  The theme or premise is to have peace on earth, good will toward all men.  Wonder Woman is actually an Amazon and grows up on  a mythical island with the Amazon women, her mother being the Queen of said women.  The timeframe is WWI.  The mythical world and the real world collide, when an American spy posing as a German, is shot down in the waters off this mythical island and young Wonder Woman rescues the pilot.  The Germans get on to the island and a great battle takes place in which Wonder Woman's aunt is killed.  At that point she decides she is going after the god of war, Ares and kill him so that no other people will have to die.  So that is the setup and there are lots of funny lines, but lots of crazy battle stunts and other mythical people who come out to mix it up in this real world war.  I tired of it before the end--it was so loud and so fantastical.  The irony is that after lots of violence and killing by all parties, the take away theme is basically said in unimpressive prose for all those who can not see the symbolism in the action itself.  I read in the paper today that the movie is banned in a few countries because the actress who plays Wonder Woman is Israeli and believe it is a conspiracy to show that Israeli defeats all other nations.  The one true and real thing about the movie is that we live in a screwed up world that will take more than mythical superheroes to fix.
